About those 'Horns
Some look at me and only see
A walking piece of history.
The longhorn, cattlemen say,
Is obsolete, long past its day.
They say our calves will never grow
Because our gain is awful slow.
But ask the man if he's owned many
And you'll find he's not had any!
Those of us, that noble breed,
Know that few cows could exceed
What Mother Nature's shaped before:
A work of years, over fifteen score.
For calving ease none will surpass;
For smarts, no others in our class.
When feed is poor, we still grow good
And finish out just like we should.
So when you hear some talk with scorn
About the noble cow Longhorn,
And talk about some terrible fault,
Just take it with a grain of salt!
